EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Membership Meetings
Monthly meetings are held at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle. Each meeting covers relevant and timely information about roses. Open to the public.

Nursery Visitations
Most weekends in February, March and April rosarians travel to local nurseries, answering questions and educating the public about growing roses.

Garden Tours and Picnic
During the summer local gardens are put on display and may be visited during one of our garden tours, or in some cases by appointment. After one of the garden tours a picnic is held at a member's home.

Highline Botanical Garden
The Seattle Rose Society has created a new public rose garden in partnership with Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden. The garden is a beautiful, fragrant public gathering space, as well as a teaching and working border where local rosarians will give demonstrations on rose selection, cultivation, and care. The garden is tended by volunteers from local rose societies and anyone else who wants to help out while learning more about caring for a rose garden.

Northwest Flower and Garden Show
The Seattle Rose Society has an educational booth at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show. The next show will be February 18-22, 2009 at the Washington State Convention Center.

Pruning Demonstrations
During the months of February and March we have pruning demonstrations at various locations. Its a great opportunity to learn the proper technique for pruning a wide variety of roses.

The first pruning pruning demonstration is at Woodland Park Rose Garden usually held the last Saturday in February from noon to 3:00 p.m. Seattle Rose Society members demonstrate how to prune hybrid teas and floribundas, and answer general rose questions.

We also do a hands-on pruning demonstration at our rose garden at Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden, usually the first Saturday in March, from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We have over 100 roses, of which only 20 are hybrid teas. The rest of the garden is made up of floribundas, David Austin roses, climbers, shrubs, and old garden roses. We will be pairing up people who wish to try hands-on pruning with Rose Society members for one-on-one training. This is a great opportunity to learn how to prune all types of roses.

Annual Rose Show at Factoria Mall
Every June the Seattle Rose Society holds their annual rose show at Factoria Mall. The Rose Show is one of the biggest in the Northwest. This year the show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15, 2008. See an amazing array of roses at their peak, and bring your own roses to enter. You may walk away with a trophy!

Annual Banquet
Our Annual Banquet, held in October, is a great chance to meet the new board and officers for the upcoming year, highlighted with a special guest speaker and photography show. The banquet is a potluck held at the Center for Urban Horticulture.
